Six squares bursting with seasonal local fruits. As we near the end of the hungry gap we're using the last of the stored autumn and winter fruit: quince, medlar, apple & pear. Hand baked in the Hodmedod Bakehouse, our chunky squares are like a date & oat slice but so much more. We combine a blend of barley - flour, flakes & kibbled - with oat flakes, pear purée, apple molasses, unrefined panela and organic butter to make two delicious, malted, caramely flavoured crumbly layers around a divine fruit centre. |
Made by baker Henrietta Inman in our Bakehouse, these crumbly local fruit, barley and oat squares are full of diverse plant fibre for superb flavour, texture and slow-releasing energy. Date-like medlar, fragrant quince, treacly dried pears and slightly sharp apple molasses create a beautifully balanced and distinct fruity centre between two crumbly, barley and oat biscuit layers.
Eat as they come!

Moist flavoursome and great mix of cereals. Nice texture with the oats.
I haven't cooked with this batch yet but it's fabulous that I can but BRITISH chickpeas. Thank you Hodmedod for being part of the bean and pulse revival!!
Great product. Made a gorgeous Ful Maddamas from them
Just came back to order some more and thought I'd leave a review. These are really great and the simplicity and nutrition of them is a winner. I've only used them so far as 'cereal' with oat milk or as part of a muesli but they really are superb and I'm looking forward to trying them in some of the recipes here too (that fridge cake looks yum!)
The box arrived as expected and I happened to have all the ingredients for the black lentil and roasted tomato dish on the recipe card within. What a dish! These lentils are very special indeed. I'm glad I doubled the quantities and made enough for 2 days.
