We’re over the moon to be one of three finalists for the Best Producer category of the 2017 BBC Food and Farming Awards. It’s a testament to the many wonderful farmers and producers we work with – and to the potential of British farming to produce an ever wider variety of foods.

After a global search for seed, a couple of years of trials (and several months working out how to flake and mill it) we’ve finally welcomed organic naked barley into the Bean Store.

Three of Hodmedod's British-grown pulse and grain products are among the 2016 Great Taste awards winners! We're delighted that the quality and taste of our Yellow Pea Flour, canned Carlin Peas and British Quinoa have been recognised in these acclaimed awards, widely considered as the benchmark for fine food and drink in the UK.

We were very excited to discover Abyssinian peas in the John Innes Centre's seed bank and are now running garden trials to find out more about these unusual and beautiful peas from Ethiopia.

If you are following a gluten-free diet it's not always easy to buy British ingredients with clear provenance. Hodmedod has now launched a range of gluten-free flours, all milled in Essex from pulses and quinoa grown on British farms.

Hodmedod's Organic Carlin Peas have been awarded the prestigious Soil Association BOOM award for best pantry product. We're overjoyed that these wonderful but little-know traditional British peas have been recognised for their deliciously nutty flavour.

Everyone at Hodmedod was deeply saddened to hear of the recent death of Andy Croft. As a talented freelance designer Andy played a leading role in developing the look and feel of Hodmedod, working on all of our design from our logo and font to every single one of our products. He was a truly lovely and gentle man with the utmost consideration for everyone around him.

We've been privileged to work with Essex quinoa pioneer Peter Fairs over the last few years to develop supply of some of the very first British-grown Quinoa. As drilling of this year's crop approaches we've been getting nostalgic re-reading this article by journalist Craig McLean on the launch of our first trial batch in 2014.
