| Sea spaghetti - also known as thongweed - is a great gluten-free low carb pasta or noodle alternative, delicious in soups & stews or even cooked along with regular spaghetti. It's an easy seaweed introduction for children as it turns a vibrant green during cooking and has a mild taste. |
Sea spaghetti has a deep beefy, oceany, nutty and salty flavour.
The Cornish Seaweed Company is licensed by The Crown Estate to hand harvest a range of seaweeds sustainably from the waters around Cornwall's rock shores. All their seaweed is harvested, dried and packed in Cornwall, in plastic-free paper pouches (the smaller packs only) printed with biodegradable ink.
Sea spaghetti, sea thong and thongweed are common names for Himanthalia elongata brown algae, common in the north east Atlantic and the North and Baltic Seas.
Soak for 15 minutes in water or vinegar and add raw to salads; boil with or instead of spaghetti and add your preferred sauce; chop and add to pie fillings; poach with fish; add to stir fries.
Can be eaten raw as a chewy salty snack like biltong.
Dried sea spaghetti (Himanthalia elongata)

I used these to make humous for the first time. I swear it tastes almost exactly the same as when made with chickpeas and so much nicer than shop bought. Very smooth and takes on the garlic and lemon flavours beautifully. Will use for dips again in the future.
Extremely tasty rye flour with a sweet malty taste. Mixed half and half with white spelt flour, it gives a loaf with great depth of flavour and nice, springy texture. Makes great toast.
This my first time cooking with dried fava and what a revelation! I love fresh broad beans because/despite them often being a little bitter, but there's not a trace of bitterness in these delicious Scottish fava beans. I've used some for soup, some for a hummus-type dip and some just straight in a salad. They've become my new addiction, they're so beautifully sweet and tasty.
Like chickpeas, these are perfect added to a salad bowl. Just wash them in a colander first to lose the thick liquid that you'd otherwise want to keep for a soup or stew.
What a great book!
So many recipes I want to try out...especially the ones using Carlin peas, which I bought a load of and haven't known how to use ....
I love the design & layout if the book and excellently clear instructions ...
I'm looking forward to using it very soon...
