Order freshly baked bread for dispatch on Thursday 17th September and next-day delivery on the Friday. Orders for Thursday dispatch must be placed by 12 noon on the Monday. Order four sourdough loaves in baked by Johnny Spillings at the Penny Bun Bakehouse in Lowestoft and save 10% on the cost of the individual loaves. |
These loaves are slow fermented with the Penny Bun sourdough starter and baked on the day we send them to you. Sourdough bread keeps beautifully and freezes very well.
2 x "Hodmedod" Sourdough
These loaves are made with a blend of wholegrain YQ and white flour, a porridge of naked barley flakes and toasted wholegrain quinoa, all slow fermented with the Penny Bun sourdough starter. Once formed the loaves are coated with naked barley flakes and baked. The mild 'sour' flavour of the ferment is complemented by the sweet maltiness of the naked barley, nutty depth of the YQ and the rich, earthy, tang of toasted quinoa.
1 x North Sea Sourdough
It's Johnny's classic sourdough, inspired by the bakery's location between the North Sea and the arable fields of East Anglia, and made with a blend of white and wholemeal wheat, spelt and rye flours.
The North Sea loaf has a finer crumb than many sourdough loaves, meeting demand from Johnny's customers for a less open texture so the melted butter wouldn't fall through the holes in toast!
1 x Holkham Malted Sourdough
Made using strong flour milled from Crusoe wheat grown on the Holkham estate in North Norfolk, our Malted Wheat Flakes give the bread a deliciously malty flavour.
*Add the loaf to your basket and complete your order as usual. A small number of loaves will be baked to order every week. Orders for Thursday dispatch must be received by 12 noon on the Monday.

I have been ordering these loaves for the last couple of years. I live all the way down in dorset and won't buy from anywhere else as trying to find high quality artisan bread that tastes this good without any nasty ingredients is impossible. Can't recommend highly enough.

Wonderful results and so easy with a soda bread recipe. Lovely colour, density and flavour.
I use 3 measures of Black Wheat and add to it 1 measure of Strong White Flour.
Sometimes I add mixed grain flour as well. Always a perfect product,
I am an impulsive cooker and have rarely soaked any pulses when I fancy them. The naked peas (essentially split peas) solve this problem. The pink ones stayed more whole than yellow split peas, a fact I love. The taste is similar to yellow peas with a hint of red lentil and a texture similar to chick peas. I haven't tried it for houmous yet, but it should work a treat.
Just started a mainly vegan diet and had not realised how many beans you can buy! No idea what to choose so just bought this bundle. Tried a couple of recipes so far from the site and really wonderful. Who knew beans were so versatile and tasty!
Interesting to see these cooking instructions. However, I would like to recommend YQ as a bread flour. After some five years of using various Hodmedod's wheats for my bread, this is one of the very best I have tried - I get loads of compliments from family and friends whenever I bake with this flour.
Just arrived - quickly - but really looking forward to trying them.
