| A purée of fermented beans full of rich umami flavour. Our Fava Bean Umami Paste is particularly lively and we have had reports of it bubbling out of the jars in customers cupboards. This doesn’t affect the quality of the product and it tastes as delicious as normal but to prevent mess we suggest storing this straight in the fridge rather than the cupboard. |
Similar to a Japanese miso but made with British-grown fava beans, our fermented Fava Bean Umami Paste is packed with deep rich umami flavour with subtle notes of sherry.
Awarded two stars in the 2018 and 2019 Great Taste Awards, here are a few of the judges' comments:
Adds to stir fries, stews, soups, dressings, stocks and more for umami depth and fruity, sherry flavour. We’ve even been spreading it on toast!
Add about half a teaspoon per serving to almost any dish for added depth of flavour.
Keep refrigerated.

Our Fava Umami Paste is fermented in the same way as many soya bean ferments used for miso, black beans, soy sauce or tamari, but using fava beans instead of soy beans. It's made with just fava beans, water and salt, fermented with a live culture of Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Aspergillus sojae and Zygosaccharomyces rouxii.
Suitable for vegans.
175g packs are in recyclable glass jars with metal lids.
Very happy with the product. Was softer than I expected but it's worked well in dishes.
Thought it might be more like a miso paste but it's thinner than the ones of those I've had. That's an observation not a complaint.
Tasty addition to stews and soups
I just LOVE the fermented fava bean paste.
Packs a punch of flavour. I use it to enrich stews, in place of stock etc.
I bought a smal jar at the local organic market and was very surprised and instant hooked! Deep rich taste and nice colouring too. We’ve been secretly smearing it on our savory sandwiches, our son of 6 loves it too :). Works perfectly with sourdough!! Hope you’ll be delivering to the NL…?

Really like the texture of these.
So easy to prep, I'm using them in hot and cold dishes. My new favourite hummus base. I love that they are grown in the UK, I have ordered these twice now.
I bought this naked (hulless) barely to try and grow as it can be processed easily, but I ended up eating it all and not planting any. I have sprouted some, roasted it and used for a tasty sweet flour, soaked overnight and cooked in soup, but my favourite is soaking, cooking and using in a (kind of) Tabbouh - lots of cucumber tomato, parsley, mint with the addition of finely chopped sautéed onion, garlic and whole cumin and coriander seeds. My guests have loved it numerous times.
These oats are very tasty compared to standard incl. steel cut oats. They make very creamy porridge if used either cracked or whole (soaked & then cut to release starch).
These peas are a staple in my house, fantastic in a soup but not limited to that. Full of fibre and protein, tasty and quick and easy to prepare as well as being a super food that gives back to the soil when grown. All round win.
