Use our Organic Split Fava Beans to make dal, falafel or hummus - or add a handful or more to soups, stews or curries. The beans get softer and softer the longer they're cooked.
Or try our new Fava Bean Chips - they're cheaper than Split Fava Beans and cook just the same only a little faster.

Split fava beans don't need soaking and cook down to a very soft consistency.
To cook simply cover the beans with water or stock, boil for 10 minutes then simmer, braise or roast for 20-30 minutes more. Pre-soaking speeds up cooking but isn't essential. The beans will get softer and softer as they cook.
Cooking times for dried pulses will be longer at higher altitudes and when cooking with hard water or older pulses.
Adding bicarbonate of soda during soaking and/or cooking will soften the pulses and reduce the cooking time.
Cooked pulses can be used immediately or frozen for later use.

Delicious, nutritious and good for the soil, fava beans are a variety of broad bean, Vicia faba, left to ripen and dry before harvest. They’re also known as field beans, horse beans, Windsor beans or ful.
Britain's original bean, fava beans have been grown and eaten here since the Iron Age.
Suitable for vegans and vegetarians
I just found these forgotten at the back of the cupboard. BBE date December 24 (6 months ago) but they still cooked quickly and easily without soaking and made delicious hummus, much easier than chick peas. These are really good for thickening soup as well.
I’ve been ordering these fava beans for over a year and they’re my favourite of all Hodmedods beans. So easy to cook with (no soaking) and they have a delicate nutty flavour.
Just ordering my 3rd 5kg bag of these split faces beans. I love them - find they don't take long to cook at all - wonderful for adding to soup, and making hummus!
I don't soak them, just bring to boil and simmer.
This bag arrived split. Can I have a refund please?
Soaked for 48 hours simmered for hours and they did not soften. I liquidised and taste was pleasant but not of broad beans

So easy to prep, I'm using them in hot and cold dishes. My new favourite hummus base. I love that they are grown in the UK, I have ordered these twice now.
I bought this naked (hulless) barely to try and grow as it can be processed easily, but I ended up eating it all and not planting any. I have sprouted some, roasted it and used for a tasty sweet flour, soaked overnight and cooked in soup, but my favourite is soaking, cooking and using in a (kind of) Tabbouh - lots of cucumber tomato, parsley, mint with the addition of finely chopped sautéed onion, garlic and whole cumin and coriander seeds. My guests have loved it numerous times.
These oats are very tasty compared to standard incl. steel cut oats. They make very creamy porridge if used either cracked or whole (soaked & then cut to release starch).
These peas are a staple in my house, fantastic in a soup but not limited to that. Full of fibre and protein, tasty and quick and easy to prepare as well as being a super food that gives back to the soil when grown. All round win.
These pumpkin seeds are absolutely delicious and very moreish. I’m looking forward to ordering them again soon.
